| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE "98 in the Shade", a mainstay on the Gulf Coast music circuit for over sixteen years, originated in Galveston, Texas in 1991 when Jim Pregler replaced Jim Krebs at the helm of another Gulf Coast favorite "Salty Dog". Together with guitarist and long-time friend Mark Kingsley and Port Arthur native Marty Monte, who joined the mix in 1993, the band enjoyed an unprecedented nine year run as the house band at the legendary Strand Street Saloon, a favorite routing destination for such national acts as Leon Russell, Pat Travers, Rick Derringer and "The Georgia Satellites" as well as many regional favorites. Drummer Vince Mejia, a veteran of Joe King Carrasco, teamed up with Pregler in 2003 while "98" was taking what would turn out to be a six year break. The duo put together a drum/bass rhythm section and spent the next few years backing up such notables as Grammy nominated guitarist Bert Wills, Bay Area vocalist of the year Janet Z, Rocky Hill (brother of ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill), Tommie Lee Bradley (vocalist with such artists as "REO Speedwagon" and Harry Chapin) and others. "98 in the Shade" reunited in 2006 with original members Kingsley, Monte, Pregler and newcomer Mejia after making an impromptu appearance at a fund raiser. They have since added vocalist Andra Mitrovich, an inductee to the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame as a member of "Big Brother and the Holding Company" and one of the stars of Love, Janis, a play about Janis Joplin in which she portrays Joplin. The band has recently completed a CD under the direction of Grammy nominated engineer Andy Bradley at the famed Sugarhill Studios in Houston, Texas. The CD, titled Complicated, is being submitted for 2008 Grammy consideration. |

COMPLICATED - RELEASE DATE: NOV 2007 "This CD is a Tour de force by the four core members of the band, who are joined by "free agent" Andra Mitrovich, on seven of the songs, and at some of their gigs; her schedule permitting. Andra's rendition of Ball and Chain is reason enough to pick one up! Janis Joplin fans will think that they've had an acid flashback, and it's the 1060's, again; and if you listen with the right kind of ears; it will be! The nine songs are about evenly split with four covers, and five originals. Mark Kingsley contributes Step Into The Den, Marty Monte wrote or co-wrote Belvedere Hotel and Turnaround Blues and Jim Pregler wrote or co-wrote Breaking My Own Heart and I Still Hear Mama Sing. Local fans will especially enjoy Step Into The Den which immortalizes that now deceased watering hole on The Strand, and Turnaround Blues where Marty bares his soul about his great love for Jagermeister! And yes, Marty wanted to make sure that everyone knows that he did the keyboard work! This CD is a "must have" for all Southern Rock fans!!" Dave Stanowski - Galveston Music Scene |
